Relying on its Synchronized Main Furling (SMF) system which synchronizes an electric motor in the mast with its new E40i electric winch for the downhaul during the deployment of the mainsail, Seldén has further automated the system to offer a true push button navigation experience.

To make handling the sail even easier for a small crew, Seldén removed the E40i electric winch from the SMF system and installed small aluminum hydraulic cylinders in the boom to control the downhaul during furling and lifting. deployment of the sail.

Hydraulic boom cylinders for sheet and mainsheet control are not a new concept, but since they were previously large, low pressure steel cylinders, their size makes them larger. made prohibitive for use on yachts under 50 feet.

Seldén’s development of a smaller aluminum cylinder at higher pressure significantly reduced the size and weight of the required power pack by 50%. This innovation means that a hydraulic outlet can now sit next to a hydraulic mainsheet, both of which are enclosed in the boom of the Oyster 495, allowing the owner to push-button control of the sheet. mainsail and sheet.

The system is powered by Seldén’s exclusive control system, SEL-Bus, which is fully integrated across the yacht for all Seldén electrical and hydraulic product lines. The SEL-Bus system converts 12V or 24V to 42V, allowing much smaller and thinner cables around the vessel. The system also communicates between the various on-board units, providing a diagnostic function that allows the system to reduce power consumption by putting the system into “sleep” mode when not in use.
