The Industry’s First Automotive-Qualified PCIe® Gen 4 Switches

CHANDLER, Ariz., Feb. 21 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — High-throughput, low-latency connectivity solutions for distributed and heterogeneous computing systems are a fundamental component of next-generation autonomous driving applications. Microchip Technology Inc. (Nasdaq: MCHP) announces market premiere Automotive qualified PCIe Gen 4® switches. These Switchtec™ PFX, PSX and PAX switching solutions provide state-of-the-art computing interconnect capabilities for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

“Our automotive-qualified Switchtec Gen 4 switch portfolio delivers the lowest latency and high bandwidth needed to bridge the processor and accelerator building blocks used in ADAS applications,” said Krishna Mallampati, Director Marketing and Applications Associate for Microchip’s Data Center Solutions business unit. . “We are excited to see the culmination of years of working with technology partners and key customers to bring these solutions to market.”

Switchtec Gen 4 PCIe switches provide the high-speed interconnect that supports real-time distributed processing of safety-critical data in ADAS architectures. PCIe is becoming the preferred compute interconnect solution for the automotive industry for the same reasons it has become ubiquitous in the data center market. It delivers ultra-low latency and low-power bandwidth scalability to specialty processors and accelerators.

“Qualifying Microchip’s solutions to meet the rigorous needs of the automotive market is an important step, and NVIDIA has worked closely together,” said Michael Truog, senior director of automotive platform architecture at NVIDIA. “Microchip’s automotive PCIe switches offer advanced flexibility and programmability, enabling high-speed SoC and GPU connectivity within our NVIDIA DRIVE platform.
